  • Themes of Life

The entries in The Skeptic’s Inspirational are founded on twelve themes. Why twelve? Well…

The backstory here is that when I first came up with the idea over ten years ago, I was trying to structure it in a way that made it easier for me write up the entries. So, I assigned a theme to each month, scoured the internet looking for quotes and aphorisms that fit the themes, and plugged them in.

That was efficient, sure, but the result was lackluster, repetitive, and clunky. I knew halfway through that the approach was not sufficient, and by then other things had come up in life, so I folded the whole project up and put it away.

When I decided to re-open it, I knew two things: I needed to mix things up, and I needed to take out the majority of the quotes. A few stayed, ones that I felt comfortable with using, but all the others got jettisoned. Many served as inspirations for the catalysts I eventually used, though. My purpose in not using quotes so extensively is to keep the focus of the reader on the catalyst itself, not the person who said it.

The other thing that stayed was the framework of the twelve themes. I could have expanded or reduced the list, but I liked the themes I came up with, so I kept them. I have randomized the entries though, so aside from the first week of the year (focused on ‟renewal”) and the last week of the year (‟hope”) the themes are not too repetitive:

    • Renewal
    • Compassion
    • Courage
    • Hope
    • Curiosity
    • Happiness
    • Optimism
    • Strength (Fortitude/perseverance)
    • Work (Labor/Effort)
    • Confidence
    • Gratitude
    • Relationships

    THERE WILL BE A BOOK!

Coming soon, I will have a book version available both in digital and paperback formats for you to use. Down the road, I plan to create a workbook as well. Stay tuned!
