January 24, 2025 – Week 4
Catalyst
You can’t avoid sadness without shutting yourself off from happiness.
Insight
It’s tempting to try to protect yourself from sadness, hurt, or disappointment by hardening your heart or setting strict emotional boundaries. But closing yourself off to unpleasant feelings also dulls your ability to experience joy. Happiness comes from experiencing life fully, both the highs and the lows.
By embracing the full scope of your emotions, you make room for true happiness. It’s not about avoiding sadness at all costs, but about knowing that joy is always possible, even in life’s messy or bittersweet moments. Without risk, happiness can’t truly thrive.
Reflection
Where in life have you tried to shield yourself from sadness? How might opening yourself up even in small ways bring more happiness into your life?
